2020 is here – what did 2019 look like for ABC? Fun of course!Posted 14th January, 2020
We are two weeks into 2020 already – we can’t believe where 2019 went!
We thought we’d take a look back at some of 2019’s highlights. As you will see, everyone at ABC Day Nursery – both young and old – was very busy!
We kicked off 2019 by marking our 26th year in business. We did that with the help of the children of course, who used sticks and other materials gathered in forest school, as well as their own bodies to create the number 26. Never ones to pass up the opportunity of getting our hands dirty, our settings became a sea of red as we embraced the theme of Valentines Day with a host of creative activities.
In April Lucy Shaw won promotion as area manager, with responsibility for overseeing continuous staff development. Lucy has become an integral member of the management team and has been focusing on pushing out our award-winning curiosity approach to learning.
One of the highlights of our year was seeing ABC Hoo and Lightmoor receive their Ofsted ‘outstanding’ reports within weeks of each other. We are proud of everyone on the team who plays a part in delivering exemplary childcare to your little ones. To have all four of our settings recognised in this way and be praised for ‘inspiring awe and wonder’ in all of our children, makes us all very honoured.
In recent months we have been collecting for Telford’s baby bank campaign. The overwhelming volume of contributions from our ABC Day Nursery community shows just what a special place it is. Thank you to everyone who has donated something, however large or small, we are sure it made a huge difference to those in need at Christmas.
Chinese New Year Celebrations were thoroughly embraced in Lightmoor as children were involved in a range of oriental activities to mark the occasion and understand more about another culture. We sampled food, made lots of colourful pictures to honour the year of the pig, and even had a go at some Chinese writing.
And we know we’ve mentioned this before but we’re still so pleased we’re going to say it again. Lightmoor nursery setting was given another ‘outstanding’ Ofsted report this year, meaning that since opening in 2012 the setting has only ever delivered completely outstanding nursery provision. It has been a totally “outstanding” year!
The theme continues in Hoo as we received our second outstanding Ofsted report since opening. An incredible tribute to the hard work of everyone at the setting and the brilliant support from parents in helping us deliver the best standards of childcare.
Who needs an excuse to get out for some fresh air when we have the fabulous Hoo Farm right on our doorstep. The children access the site as often as possible and absolutely love learning about the different species… check out some of these photos
Located on the flagship Hadley Learning Centre site our Hadley nursery is always a hive of activity. We like to get involved in as much as we can as part of our wider community. Comic Relief was just one of the events we took part in – look how much fun we had!
We also get out and about a lot and made the most of some glorious sunshine to have a kickabout… we all LOVED it!
Of course across all of the nurseries we had the graduations before we said farewell to those who started school in September.
It was a busy year for us in our Hollinswood setting, we’ve rolled out the Curiosity Approach to much excitement. Our children continue to enjoy Lingotots, and the Shropshire Tutor’s visits always go down well.
Other highlights include raising more than £60 for Children In Need – and we had lots of fun wearing our PJs and eating lots and lots of cake. We explored our surroundings with some fantastic woodland activities, making rivers and seeing what would float on them… we love getting outside and having lots of fun in muddy puddles!
As always we are eternally grateful to the support of everyone in and around our ABC Day Nursery settings. Your involvement, cooperation, and participation in everything we do is invaluable.
From all of us here we wish you all the best for an exciting 2020.
