We drank coffee, ate cake and wore red!Posted 10th October, 2018
We like to do our bit to help at ABC and last week was no exception. On Friday we combined coffee and cakes with a splash of red, to raise much needed funds for two local charities.
As always we are delighted that so many of you – our youngsters, parents and carers – came together in support of the incredibly valuable organisations that aim to improve the life of local people. It was really special to see the children taking part in the fundraising efforts, and they definitely enjoyed inviting their loved ones into nursery to share the morning with us.
We joined a county-wide Wear Red for Zac initiative to help Zac Oliver, from Broseley, who has a strain of cancer called Near-Haploid. Currently in the UK the only treatment available to him is chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant. His family are aiming to raise £500,000 to pay for ground-breaking treatment available in the US which will give the four-year-old a greater chance of survival.
Schools, businesses, shops, and other community groups, including us, dressed in red for the day in return for contributions to Zac’s fund. And here at ABC we have even more reason to get involved with this incredible cause – one of Zac’s cousins works with us in our Hollinswood nursery.
Also on Friday we shared a cuppa and cake as part of Macmillan Cancer Research’s Big Coffee Morning. The children played their part by baking some delicious buns and cakes that we then shared and enjoyed.
It’s a sad but true fact that none of us ever know what life has in store for us. At ABC we always aim to do what we can to help those less fortunate than us, especially when local people are involved. The children were particularly interested in hearing about the work of the charities and we talked about people in our lives who we love and want to look after.
And here’s our totals:
ABC Lightmoor raised £50 for Zac and £165 for Macmillan.
ABC Hadley raised £85 for Macmillan
ABC Hoo raised £123 for Macmillan
ABC Hollinswood £136 for Zac
