ABC supports Operation Christmas Child

Posted 16th October, 2018
Children at ABC Day Nursery will be supporting Operation Christmas Child

We hope that the children are as excited as we are about supporting Operation Christmas Child this year.

We know that everyone loves giving and receiving Christmas cards – and the children will still get the opportunity to sprinkle as much glue and glitter as they like on their own creations.

But we thought that instead of asking our parents and carers to spend money and time on cards for everyone in the centre, we would instead ask you to spend a little bit on one small item that will be combined with others to give to those much less fortunate than ourselves.

Operation Christmas Child is run by The Samaritan’s Purse to support children around the globe in war-torn, famine-stricken countries. It has been running since 1990 and has benefitted more than 157 million children to date. We want our children here at ABC Day Nursery to spend some time this Christmas thinking about not only their loved ones, but also those children out there who have nothing.

Items that can be included in the boxes include the following:

Small toys

Dolls

A deflated football and pump

Toy car

Cuddly toy

A small musical instrument.

More practical items include the following:

A toothbrush and toothpaste

Soap

Flannel

Pen

Notepad

Torch

Sweets

Hair clips and bobbles

We want to encourage our youngsters to think about other people and how items that we take for granted can be hugely valuable to others. We will still be designing and making Christmas cards too so they – and you – won’t be missing out on glitter adorned festive cards!

You can start bringing your donations into nursery from today as the boxes have to be posted off early so they arrive in time for the big day.
